There are times where my twin boys just blow me away with their compassion and thoughtfulness (makes me forget for a moment or two the WWF smackdown that just happened five minutes prior – hahahaha). Well, this week at dinner, we had one of those moments… I like to ask them random questions, so I had them pretend that they had just discovered a magic lamp. A genie appears, of course, when the lamp is rubbed and grants them three wishes each. So, I ask them what they’d wish for (now, I am totally expecting to hear the following… Star Wars anything, Wall-E everything, etc.). We go around the table, M. goes first and wish #1 is for his beautiful family to be happy (I’m stunned and teary eyed), wish #2 is to be healthy (still stunned) and wish #3 is to have a grateful life (is this my little boy who has a bad case of the Christmas gimmes?). A’s turn… wish #1 is to have more food for he and his brother and all the kids in the world (more tears), wish #2 is enough plates to put all the food on (makes sense – heehee) and wish #3 is that all animals have homes (ummm, waterworks). I had to dry my eyes and think quick because the 1st wish on my list was going to be for this fabulous lens that I’ve had my eyes on. Ha-Ha!
Well, in the spirit of their 3 wishes, we visited Metropolitan Ministries today and donated food and household items. What an emotional experience it was too! It’s an amazing organization that has served poor and homeless men, women and children for over 35 years in the Tampa area. Their services touch 100-150 families daily through their Outreach and Prevention programs. There are so many ways to get involved from donating food to donating your time. If you are local, I encourage you to take a look at their website and see how you might give a little HOPE to those in need this holiday season. Every little bit makes a difference!!
